Murrieta's schools have enjoyed good performance results relative to their peers, and that performance is showing continued improvement.  Class sizes are comparable to those across the city panel and are falling.  Overall academic performance--as measured by the state Department of Education's Academic Performance Index--is far above county-wide averages and is at the top of the "city panel."  Similarly, Stanford 9 (aka STAR 9) test results for Murrieta and the surrounding area for the 1999-2000 academic year came in well above other cities in the panel in every individual grade.  While SAT score performance in Murrieta schools through 1998-99 did not shine as brightly as did other measures of school performance, SAT scores in Murrieta's schools have been rising steadily in recent years, and they showed substantial improvement in, as-yet, preliminary results for 1999-2000.

Finally, the region features a wide variety and large number of first-rate universities and colleges located only minutes away from Murrieta.
